I'm Barbara Dunn, PhD, and am a visiting scientist in the laboratory of Dr Maitreya Dunham in the Genome Sciences Dept at Univ of Washington in Seattle. I have been studying the genome of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae ever since receiving my PhD at Harvard Univ with Dr Jack Szostak, where I characterized yeast telomeres. Currently I am working with the Dunham lab using lab-based experimental evolutionary techniques as well as genetic modification approaches to obtain brewing yeasts with novel or desired characteristics for enhancing the brewing process.
