Maitreya Dunham is professor and chair of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington. She is a yeast geneticist who uses experimental evolution and genome engineering in practical ways to improve yeast characteristics, and also as a research tool to understand how genomes evolve. She also runs a high school teaching lab called yEvo that uses yeast to introduce students to topics in genetics, evolution, bioinformatics, and research in general.
