Jessica Young is a PhD candidate in Brewing Science at the University of California, Davis. She holds a BSc in Cell and Molecular Biology and began her brewing career in Asheville, North Carolina. In 2017, she joined Bearded Iris Brewing in Nashville, TN, where she advanced to manage Cellar, Quality, and Sensory departments. Jessica has shared her expertise on the MBAA and Brewing Network podcasts and has authored several publications on Hop Creep, including Humulus lupulus and Microbes: Exploring Biotic Causes for Hop Creep (Journal of Food Microbiology, 2023) and A Fresh Perspective on Hop Composition: The Discovery of Starch in Hop Cones (Humulus lupulus) (ASBC, 2025). She also contributed a yeast-harvesting method published in the MBAA Technical Quarterly (Vol. 58, No. 2 in 2021). She enjoys making complex science accessible—with a crisp Pilsner and her English lab, Billie, close by.
